The Joys of Guernsey

{I love this book so much!}

Have you read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society? No? Well you should. Because this book is a treasure.

The plot is fantastic, the writing is crafted from two genuine artists, and the lessons this book teaches are priceless.

The book suggests that “there is some secret sort of homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers" (Guernsey), but I know this is true. I've seen it with nearly every book I've read.

For example, there was a really funny instance the other day with my kindred spirit and bosom friend that drives a car named Stacy.

I was at her house, sitting on her bed glancing over her bookshelves as is habit every time I'm over, when I noticed a unique copy of the first Nancy Drew book. I owned a copy just like it, and have another quite similar to it. I picked the book up off her shelf, stating that I thought the book was once mine (seeing as how it got donated to D.I. by my mother). She told me that she had bought it from D.I. (as is custom between the two of us -- we both love buying used books for a steal from Deseret Industries), as I flipped open the front cover. Inside was a note my mother had written in the book when she used to own it, before giving it to me, before donating it to D.I., before Kelsey bought it.

The funny thing is that I had been thinking about how my mom had donated several books of mine to D.I. a while ago, and I was wondering what had happened to all of them earlier that day as I was cleaning my room (an ongoing, never-ending process) before heading over to Kelsey's. Of all the people that peruse Deseret Industries' shelves every day, she happened to buy this book (which was donated over two years ago by the way), which found its way back to me.

Guernsey was right-- books DO have secret homing devices. Everyone ends up with the books they were meant to read. It's never by accident.

I love these magical instances in my life, proving the wonders of how the world works and the magical instances that happen every day for us to enjoy. It really helps you gain an appreciation for life and its treasures.

This book truly is for all of us who love reading -- and I mean LOVE it.

Here's a link to fantastic quotes from the book, that can give you a taste of its many wonders:

Please go out and read this book -- it will change your life (for the better!).

Peace Like A River, and many happy hours of getting lost in a world of wonder whilst curled up in a comfy nook
